iPass Inc. (NASDAQ: IPAS) Deepens Wi-Fi Ties With AlwaysOn


iPass Inc. (NASDAQ: IPAS) has announced that South Africa’s AlwaysOn will take advantage of its SmartConnect SDK to expand its Wi-Fi hotspots access to its customers globally. The latest deal builds on the partnership arrangement that the two companies already have in place.

44 million hotspots

According to iPass Inc. (NASDAQ: IPAS), AlwaysOn will be using its SmartConnect SDK to connect its customers to some 44 million Wi-Fi hotspots located around the world in places such as airports, hotels, airplanes and public areas.

AlwaysOn is a leading South African Wi-Fi provider whose domestic network includes more than 2,500 Wi-Fi hotspots. These hotspots already use iPass Inc. (NASDAQ:IPAS)’s technology.

But using the SmartConnect SDK is expected to expand free Wi-Fi connection opportunity for AlwaysOn customers. Besides the ability to connect customers to more than 44 million hotspots globally, AlwaysOn will also use the SDK to create a new application that ensures its customers connect to the hotspots securely.

Differentiation advantage

The other advantage that IPAS says AlwaysOn stands to enjoy is the ability to differentiate itself from the competition in the communications market. That should enable AlwaysOn to build a sticky base of customers and gain market share, which could translate to more value for IPAS as well.

According to iPass Inc. (NASDAQ: IPAS)’s VP of EMEA and APAC regions, Mato Petrusic, the latest deal with AlwaysOn is a demonstration of how the technology the render enables providers to add value to their offering to gain competitive advantage. He added that IPAS’s network is a tool to transform local Wi-Fi into global Wi-Fi. AlwaysOn is a unit of Dimension Data.

2Q2016 earnings – iPass Inc. (NASDAQ: IPAS)

iPass Inc. (NASDAQ: IPAS) is scheduled to release its 2Q2016 earnings after the close of regular trading on August 3. The release of the result will be followed by a conference call to discuss the earnings. In the last quarter, the company generated revenue of $14.7 million and posted EPS loss of $0.05.
